LWD inaugurates new school building in Pursat

A new school building of 3 classrooms located in a remote mountainous area in Phnom Kravanh district of Pursat province was inaugurated early March 2011.

School_PK1The 3 classrooms are fully equipped with students tables, teacher’s desks, chairs and boards and complemented by three latrines, a water pump, children entertainment facilities, a fence, and other facilities.

The project was funded by the Australian Lutheran World Service/AusAID and implemented by LIFE WITH DIGNITY (LWD). The project aimed to increase access to education for disadvantaged children in rural Cambodia. It cost USD 40,684.

School_PK2Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Sam Inn, Executive Director for LWD, highlighted that the building was successfully constructed under good cooperation with local authorities and the community. He highly appreciated this valuable joint achievement. He also encouraged parents in this community to send their school-aged children to school.

Mr Pech Hon, Deputy Governor of Pursat province, thanked LWD which always actively contributed to developing the community in the district. He also requested LWD to continue to support the development of the district.

For the first school year 2010-2011, 125 (54 girls) of 247 school-aged children in the area have attended school.
