Kampong Speu (October 10, 2013) – Commune Councilors, District Governors, members of Kampong Speu provincial committee for disaster management (PCDM), and representatives from non-government organizations working on disaster risk management met today at a workshop to launch a new book “Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan (EPRP)” in Kampong Speu provincial town.

The workshop was organized by the PCDM and co-sponsored by Life With Dignity (LWD) and UNICEF. There were 80 participants attending the workshop.
Funded by the European Commission and the Dann Church Aid, the EPRP which was initiated in early 2013 by the PCDM of Kampong Speu under the technical support from the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) and cooperation with local authorities, LWD, and Unicef, aimed to build capacity of community-based disaster committee to reduce the damage and the loss of property and human lives in Kampong Speu. The book will also be used a mechanism to prevent other disasters in the province such as flood, drought, storm, fire, infectious diseases, traffic accidents, and others.
One hundred and fifty copies of the book were printed. These will be distributed among related NGOs working on disaster reduction in Kampong Speu and the Committees for Disaster Management at the province and district levels.
In his closing speech, Mr Ou Sam Oun, the new provincial governor of Kampong Speu, highly appreciated the cooperation of LWD and other non-government organizations working on disaster risk management in their both technical and financial support to make this book published.
He also urged LWD to continue its support by mobilizing more resource from its donors to develop and help poor people in this province. (Edited by LEAK Ratna)
