Battambang (November 23, 2013) – Life With Dignity (LWD) donated today early recovery aid worth USD137,914 to 4,200 flood effected families from three districts of Kamrieng, Phnom Prek, and Bavel of Battambang province.

The humanitarian aid for affected people was donated by Act alliance, Finn Church Aid (FCA), Australia Lutheran World Service (ALWS), and Dan Church Aid/Christian Aid (DCA/CA) channeled through and administered by LWD. The donation events have been set in different places in the target of LWD.
In his welcome speech, Mr Cheoung Yowoth, Program Officer of DCA/CA said that today’s donation was a humanitarian aid and not related to any political party. He also encouraged effected families to use this donation in the right way to improve their livelihood after the flood.
Mr San Vinich, Battambang Area Program Manager of LWD, said that climate change is a huge concern for Cambodian as well as the people around the world. “We need to reduce the risks affected by climate change as much as possible by adapting and preparing ourselves for any further natural disasters,” he said.
Mr Nob Sovann, Chief of District Councilors of Kamrieng, deeply thanked LWD and its donor partners for their great effort mobilizing resources to help flood effected families in this province.
Each family received a kit of 2 water containers of 20 liters, 800mg of washing powder, 80 water purified tablets, and USD 25 cash. Each kit is worth USD 28.7.
According to Disaster Risk Reduction Coordinator of LWD Mr Kann Virak, this donation was aimed to provide early recovery and rehabilitation support to affected communities in severely flooded target areas of ACT Alliance member organizations and partners in Cambodia by providing unconditional cash grants for relief and livelihood recovery and WASH packages to most vulnerable households. There would be follow-up monitoring and ongoing support to families who chose to carry out livelihood activities to ensure that they can be sustained over the long-term.
A 45-year-old widow with seven children in her burden in Ou Doan Poa village, Kdol Tahen commune of Bavel district, Mrs Ros Samay, was very happy with this donation. “My house was under flood for two weeks and it destroyed my crops such as soybean, rice, and corn.” she said, adding that she had already spent some cash from donation to buy corn seeds for her next plantation after flood.
Mrs Samay also deeply thanked LWD and donors for helping her family. “It is small donation for my whole family, but it is a timely donation from which I can make plan to improve my family livelihood.” she said. (Edited by Mr Dariush Ghobad, Resource Mobilization Advisor of LWD)
