The humanitarian aid for the affected people was donated by Act alliance, Finn Church Aid (FCA), Australia Lutheran World Service (ALWS), and Dan Church Aid/Christian Aid (DCA/CA) channeled through and administered by LWD. It aimed to help them get back on their feet after the flood.

In his remarks, Mr. Mean Chanthorn, Deputy Governor of Bavel district, expressed his profound thanks to LWD and its donors for their efforts in mobilizing resources to help the families affected by flash flood in October last year.

Mr. San Vinich, LWD Area Program Manager, said flooding last year affected all of the families in this area, but according to the limited budget, those who were affected the most were given priority to get the donation.

“LWD strictly applies its core values—justice, equity, people’s participation, and transparency and accountability—in its work,” Mr. Vinich said, adding that LWD highly appreciated the strong cooperation and collaboration extended by the local authorities at all levels thus far.

Each family received a kit of one water jerry can of 20 liters, 900mg of detergent, 80 water purified tablets, and US$25 cash. Each kit is worth USD 28.7.

Mr. Kong, flood victim from Apilpramdaem commune, received the early recovery donation from LWD last November. He spends half amount of the money he got from the humanitarian assistance to buy vegetable seeds to grow. Behind him is his eggplants which he grew after flood.

A local village couple, Mr. Kong , 73 and his wife Sok Son, 60 showed great gratitude towards the support they received. They have been affected severely by the flash flood, leaving the garden crops destroyed and drowning much of their belongings. They have used the money to buy a month supply of rice and seeds to start their only source of income again. Because of the alarming experience last year, they have now started to elevate their land.

According the aid criteria, the selected beneficiaries are those who hold ID Poor Cards Group 1 and 2. LWD proudly planed, coordinated and administrated this early recovery project in accordance with our overall goal of supporting and empowering the people in Cambodia.

In November last year, LWD distributed  the same aid package worth US$137,914 to 4,200 flood effected families from three districts of Kamrieng, Phnom Prek, and Bavel of Battambang.
