Disaster experts discuss planning for community-based disaster risk management

Kampong Speu (June 21, 2013) – Commune Councilors, District Governors, members of provincial committee disaster management (PCDM), and representatives from non-government organizations working on disaster risk management met today at a Disaster Risk Reduction Forum to discuss the planning for disaster preparedness and response in Kampong Speu provincial town.

The forum, organized by the PCDM and co-sponsored by Life With Dignity (LWD) and UNICEF, aimed to share key concepts on disaster planning for preparedness, response, and risk reduction, and emergency response plan. There were 150 participants attending the forum.

In his welcome remarks, LWD Program Director Mr Chan Vibol appreciated and deeply thanked the PCDM, all community-based disaster management committees and the local authorities at all levels in Kampong Speu province for their good cooperation with LWD to manage disaster risk in the province.

“I do hope this good cooperation will go on lastingly, and LWD will keep playing its important role to further support the government’s mission to manage the disaster risk,” he said.

Mr Pen Sambo, Deputy Governor of Kampong Speu province, highly appreciated LWD that played active roles in developing rural areas, especially in managing disaster risk in the province. “This invaluable contribution from LWD helps accelerate the development in this province,” he said.
