AZEECON holds 21st summit to review its accomplishments

Vientiane, Lao PDR (Nov 01, 2017)— AZEECON executives and management, and related agency representatives from Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS), Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and LWF met to review its accomplishments over the year and plan for the next year at the 21st annual summit, held on Oct 31-Nov 3 in Vientiane, Lao PDR.

The meeting, organized by LWF Laos, also provided an opportunity for participants to share good practice their organizations have made in addressing climate change issue, responding to disaster risk reduction and planning for disaster preparedness. According to the training report 2017, around 90 participants from the AZEECON member organizations attended 6 AZEECON events in 2017. They included: (1) Exchange Visit on Disability Mainstreaming for South Asia; (2) 6th Customised Training on Climate Change; (3) Conflict Sensitivity and Do-No-Harm in Emergency Response; (4) EETV (Human Rights Advocacy), Non-confrontational, Evidence-Based, Solution-Focused Policy Dialogue to advance Human Rights; (5) Core Humanitarian Standard; and (6) Training of Trainer on Gender Inclusive Right Based Development. The training events planned for 2018 included:
  1. Resource Mobilization and Fund Raising Strategy
  2. Action Research and Policy Advocacy
  3. Gender Inclusive Rights Based Development (TOT follow up)
  4. Peace Building and Conflict Resolution
  5. Myanmar Artisan Toolkits
  6. CC related best indigenous/traditional practices in upland and lowland ecosystems
  7. Disability Inclusive development
  8. Peace Building and Conflict Resolution
  9. Exposure to the outstanding govt. and non-govt. institutions working on CCA
  10. Camp Management
  11. Psychosocial Counseling (support from Emergency Hub)
  12. Agricultural value chain and market development
AZEECON is an informal, member-led regional network of field programs and former programs of Lutheran World Federation/Department of World Service active in promoting disaster risk reduction in seven countries. It was founded in 1997.
