2. AZEECON holds 20th summit to review its accomplishments

Siem Reap, Cambodia (Dec 03, 2016)-- AZEECON executives and management, and related agency representatives from Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS), Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), Church of Sweden (CoS), Felm and LWF/DWS met to review its accomplishments over the year and plan for the next year at its 20^th annual summit, held on Nov 28-30 in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The meeting also provided an opportunity for participants to share good practice their organizations have made in addressing climate change issue, responding to disaster risk reduction and planning for disaster preparedness. In additions, the meeting discussed the linkage between the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and AZEECON strategy, especially having more discussion on Goal 13, 14, and 15 and developed an action plan how and what AZEECON can contribute to these three goals. According to the training report, 110 participants (42 female) from the AZEECON member organizations attended 5 AZEECON events in 2016. They included: (1) Disability Mainstreaming Workshop in Nepal; (2) 4th Customized Training on Climate Change Follow-up in Bangladesh; (3) 5th Customized Training on Climate Change and Gender in Indonesia; (4) Special Training on Gender Inclusive Right Based Development in Lao PDR; and (5) Summit: Annual Planning and Review Meeting in Cambodia, including a one-day training on Web-based PME&R System (Newdea). The training events planned for 2017 included:

1. Disability Mainstreaming
2. Climate Change follow up
3. ToT on Gender Inclusive Right Based Development
4. Non-confrontational, Evidence-Based, Solution-Focused Policy Dialogue to advance Human Rights
5. Summit, LWF Regional Consultation Meeting
6. Communications Training
7. Risk Reduction and CHS

AZEECON is an informal, member-led regional network of field programs and former programs of Lutheran World Federation/Department of World Service active in promoting disaster risk reduction in seven countries. It was founded in 1997. AZEECON’s primary role is to primarily support capacity-building and facilitate practical, peer-to-peer learning in the broad field of LRRD (Linking Relief, Rehabilitation & Development) responding to members’ needs and priorities. AZEECON offers a convenient and cost effective platform for member organizations and staff to gain knowledge, exchange ideas and interact regionally. Since established, thousands of staff have participated in the range of capacity-building activities conducted in topics such as Trafficking, Food Security, Climate Change, HAP, SPHERE Standards, Youth, Advocacy, RBA, etc.
