The Radio was awarded 3rd prize for its magazine program based on the successes of girl child and youth in rural community. A competition was organised for all 14 community radios in Bangladesh by BNNRC (Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio Communication), with cooperation of Plan International Bangladesh. A crest and a certificate were given to the award winners on 22 December 2014 at Dhaka, Bangladesh. The program which led Radio Chilmari to achieve the recognition was about a success story of a physically challenged girl Nazmin. The Radio produced and broadcasted a program on her titled ‘Nazmin-er Safolya Gantha’ (Success story of Nazmin). Naznin is a Grade-V student who lives in Ulipur Upazila in Kurigram. By born, her hands were numb. Despite this challenge, Nazmin shows courage to sit for Primary School Certificate (PSC) examination this year. She achieved an excellent result by writing exam script with her toes. Nazmin’s success made a great impact not only on her; but also her mother, neighbors and community. Radio Chilmari is a community radio established by RDRS Bangladesh in 2011 in Chilmari upazila of Kurigram district with the objective of giving voice to voiceless through ensuring their communication rights and access to media.
