1. PROJECT SUMMARY
Securing Rights to Land and Sustainable Livelihoods Project is a Social Land Concession project being jointly implemented by LWD and CEDAC, funded by the European Union through DanChurchAid (DCA).
Time frame: 2011 – 2013
Project Cost: Euro 700,000
LWD received 439,748 Euro of the total amount for implementing its specific activities. The implementation of the project includes two steps—land allocation and empowerment of the poor settling in the area to improve their livelihoods.
2. PROJECT OBJECTIVE, APPROACH
OBJECTIVE
To alleviate rural poverty by securing access to land through Social Land Concession (SLC) and by improving quality of life of vulnerable households.
APPROACH
LWD applies its current right-based approach to achieve the overall goal of the project.
EXPECTED RESULTS
- 1,736 vulnerable households receive land with secure title through SLC
- Improved awareness on human rights, land rights, advocacy and networking for seven vulnerable communities
- Improved income generation of the small land holding farmers by building capacity of 7 village-based farmer’s organizations (VFO) on sustainable agricultural innovation and small business investment,
- Target communities with 1,736 households increase access to social services through improved infrastructure and facilities
- Increased access to markets and micro-finance for small land holding farmers in target areas.
3. FOCUS GROUPS, TARGET AREAS
FOCUS GROUP
The target groups of the project included 1,736 landless and land poor households who are vulnerable and excluded from basic service provision, consisting of 8,393 people (4,113 female) including 420 woman-headed households, 53 households headed by disabled persons and 10 orphan households. Most of these were former Internally Displaced People. Also, at least 108 community based organizations and their leaders established in seven communities, seven village leaders, one Commune Council, one District Working Group (DWG), one Provincial Technical Working Group (TWG) and one Provincial Land Use and Allocation Committee (PLUAC).
