VDCs and Commune Chiefs receives capacity building training

Kampong Chhnang (Jan 28, 2016) – Three commune chiefs and 20 Village Development Committee (VDC) members successfully completed a three-day training course on planning and proposal writing today.

Funded by Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the training was organized by LWD in collaboration with Kampong Chhnang Provincial Department of Rural Development (PDRD). The training was designed to strengthen capacity of the participants and empower them to more effectively engage in partnerships for sustainable development at the local level.

Ms. Hel Makara, LWD Community Empowerment Facilitator, who facilitated the training said it was the first in a series of three trainings designed for building the capacity of four newly-formed VDCs in four villages (Kiri Akphivoath, Sok Senchey, Khsaach Sar and Sambok Kreal) of Peam, Chhean Laueng and Kraing Lvea communes in Sameakki Meanchey district of Kampong Chhnang province. The four villages and the VDCs were established three years ago under the government’s Social Land Concession Project funded by Japan Social Development Fund through World Bank and the project was implemented by LWD.

Mr. Nou Sarun, one of the two trainers from Kampong Chhnang PDRD, said the training was very important for the participants because they had important roles in leading the development work in their villages.

Mr. Sarun said after completing the course the participants would (i) clearly understand their roles and responsibilities, (ii) be able to design strategic plan and village development action plan, (iii) be able to write proposals, and (v) be able to prepare meeting/workshop minutes.

Ms. Ma Kimyet, VDC Deputy Leader for Sambok Kreal village, expressed her strong interest in the training and said that she learned a lot from the training. “I am confident that after this training I can perform my tasks better.”

The second training will start on Feb 2-4 and the third one on Feb 9-11.  Resource Mobilization is the topic for the second training, while Climate Change Adaptation is for the third one.
