LWD marks World Environment Day to raise awareness on climate change

Kampong Speu (June 08, 2012) – LIFE WITH DIGNITY (LWD) today celebrated the belated World Environment Day under the theme, “Green Economy: Does it include you?” in Krang Dei Vay commune, Phnom Sruoch district of Kampong Speu province.

The celebration attracted 300 people in the community to attend. It aimed to raise the awareness on climate change and promote the community participation in climate change adaptation and mitigation program.Mrs Ieng Kimsrien, LWD Area Program Manager based in Phnom Sruoch, said in her opening speech that climate change was caused by human, everyone had to be aware of it and get ready to adapt to it. She also encouraged the community to plant more trees as many as possible and actively participate in the forest conservation.H.E. Pen Sambo, Deputy Governor of Kampong Speu, deeply thanked and highly appreciated LWD for organizing this important event to raise the awareness to the community. He also asked the participants to share what they have learned today with their communities and replant more trees.At the ceremony, a group of school children from the community performed a role-play on climate change, followed by questions and answers contest aiming to mainstream the climate change concept among participants.
