The project, named “Promoting Child Right to Health and Education” , was funded by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), channeled through Church of Sweden (CoS) and implemented by LWD. The project implementation started early 2012 and is expected to be completed in December 2013. It costs US$ 1,470,000.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, H.E Chey Chab, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, expressed his strong support for the new project. He stressed that the project was designed in line with the strategic planning of the education ministry in improving Cambodia’s both formal and informal education sector. He highly evaluated the efforts made by LWD in contributions to helping the royal government to develop the country.

Dr. Sam Inn, LWD Executive Director, said LWD initiated the project aiming to support the government’s efforts in improving health and education sectors in Cambodia. The project was designed to address health and education challenges which disadvantaged children and adolescents in rural communities under LWD’s target areas are facing.

Dr. Inn added that the project supported disadvantaged children, and adolescents in rural communities in getting access to basic health care and education services of good quality. It also specifically focuses on empowering parents, teachers, school support committees, village development committees and local authorities to actively participate in the support for the promotion of child rights to health and education.

The project would support the establishment of community pre-schools and home care education, support child friendly school program, scholarship for children, non formal education and child rights education. The project also increases the capacities of parents of vulnerable children to produce and/or supply enough nutritious food to their children and send them to schools.

LIFE WITH DIGNITY (LWD) is an autonomous Cambodian NGO localized from the Lutheran World Federation (LWF)/Department for World Service’s Cambodia Program in Jan 2011. LWD’s IRDEP covers nine target districts in four provinces of Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang and Kampong Speu with a total population of about 3 million.

Beyond a focus on the delivery of Development Service to the poor in rural Cambodia, LWD has also provided Training and Consultancy Service (TCS) for its partner NGOs both inside and outside the country, line government agencies, community-based organizations, women’s group, and youth group.
